Ingredients:

– 1 cup rolled oats

– 1 cup milk (adjust to desired consistency)

– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder

– 1/4 teaspoon pink salt

–  A few coriander leaves

– 1/2 cup yogurt (curd/dahi)

– 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter)

– 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds (rai)

– 1/2 teaspoon urad dal

– A pinch of asafoetida (hing)

– A few curry leaves

– 1-2 dry red chillies (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine 1 cup of rolled oats, 1 cup of milk, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper powder, 1/4 teaspoon of pink salt, coriander leaves and 1/2 cup of yogurt (curd/dahi). Mix well until everything is evenly combined.
  2. Cover the bowl and let it sit in the refrigerator for 4-5 hours or overnight. This allows the oats to soak up the flavours and become soft and creamy.
  3. The next day, check the consistency of the oats. If it’s too thick, you can add a little more yogurt or milk to adjust it according to your preference.
  4. Now, let’s prepare the tadka (tempering). In a small pan, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee over medium heat.
  5. Once the ghee is hot, add 1/2 teaspoon of mustard seeds (rai) and let them splutter.
  6. Add 1/2 teaspoon of urad dal and sauté until it turns golden brown.
  7. Add a pinch of asafoetida (hing), a few curry leaves, and 1-2 dry red chillies (if using). Sauté for a few seconds until fragrant.
  8. Pour this tadka over the soaked oats in the serving bowl.
  9. Give everything a gentle stir to combine the flavours.
  10. Your refreshing Dahi Tadka Oats are ready to be served!

Tips and Tricks:

– For added nutrition, you can toss in some chopped vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, or bell peppers.

– Customise the tadka according to your taste preferences by adding spices like cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, or coriander seeds.

– If you’re short on time, you can skip the overnight soaking and simply let the oats sit for at least 30 minutes before adding the tadka.

– Feel free to garnish with fresh cilantro or mint leaves for a burst of freshness.

Enjoy your cooling and nutritious Dahi Tadka Oats for a satisfying breakfast that will keep you energised throughout the day!
